Go Pink Wednesday

101441051Q: Why am I not supposed to wear deodorant, perfumes or lotions when I get a mammogram?

A: At Duke Regional Hospital, our goal is to achieve the clearest image of your breasts. Some deodorants, shimmer lotions, body wash and powders contain microscopic materials which can mimic microcalcifications on your mammogram.

Since microcalcifications can be an indication of breast cancer, we ask that you avoid these products before your exam.

Pink Tip: Avoid salty foods the week before your mammogram, as they cause bloating and fluid retention in the breast. This can lead to more discomfort during your exam.
